Basically your blog is full of inaccuracies that do gays a gross misservice. I might link to you, but only if you raise your game.
Joseph - I think all of us at Big Queer would be interested in hearing what inaccuracies you've found. Since the content here is so obviously opinionated and the views of very specific members of the gay community, I can't help but think what you call inaccuracies might be simply points of opinion, especially if you don't let us know what they are.
I'm also curious to know what great disservice (speaking of inaccuracies...misservice?) we do to other queers.
I liked it, too, for most of the same reasons you did (had "ordinary," flawed transgendered person as protagonist, and the son was quite good). I thought it was kind of uneven, tone-wise and plot-wise, and I thought the actor playing the mother went way over the top (did love Graham Greene, though) but on the whole I was impressed. Especially for a first feature film.

Which gays? Where? I didn't realise that gay politics had become so monolithic that some people expressing opinions about stuff on a blog could manage to do all gays "disservice." I wouldn't "raise your game" if I were you, because I'm not sure you want to be linked on this chap's website!!

I read that Felicity shot "TransAmerica" before she acted in the first season of "Desperate Housewives," (but after the pilot) which suggests that the later fame of the TV show had little to do with the casting choices.

Sorry folks but I know lots of drag queens and trannies...
And while she looks wonderful in the film as a performer... And the film may be "palatable" to Middle America... And may affect positive change and spread tolerance... there is NO F-ING WAY i would EVER believe she was a MAN. However, the actor playing her son is HOT. That's my $0.02.
Good. You shouldn't believe she was a man. Duncan Tucker's stated purpose was to leave audiences seeing Bree as a woman, just as how he saw mtf transsexuals.
I agree with you. This movie recently premiered in Bangkok at the 2006 International Film Festival and was warmly recieved. (And remember this is Thailand where Trannies are next to inseparable from the crowd). There was no doubt in my mind that Felicity was transgendered and I especially appreciated the way she showed this maturity as the film progressed. So disappointed that Reece won over Felicity. I mean "Ray 'with White People'" is such a tired film compared to this... Perhaps Hollywood needs a reality check still eh?

I just loved this movie. I tell everyone about it. It's a must see. Even if she couldn't pass as a man.

Coming from a heterosexual, normal man (or kid, since I am only sixteen) I loved this movie.
When I first heard about it, I thought it would be a lame comedy that made fun of trans-gendered people. Than, I was just sitting on my couch and it came on T.V, so I figured I'd give it a watch. I was really impressed with it. I would say that to appreciate this movie, you don't have to be trans-gendered, homosexual or anything else. It's a great story regardless of your sexual orientation.
