I've seen this story in a couple of places online, and so far no one has thought to mention that saying ISLAM is a threat to the U.S. is, um, really bigoted and ignorant. It's a religion, not a murder plot, folks. And over 5 million Americans are part of it, too. Islam is part of America, and a beautiful and justice-seeking way of life as well. (And no, I'm not muslim myself, though I am living in Pakistan this year.)
Just wanted to point that out.
"terrorism or Islam."???
its been expressed in a way that it seems terrorism is the meaning of Islam. It is sad that where you're defending being gay...you're actually spreading out a different meaning for a religion. And maybe if you have not realized, that is indeed a very insensitive expression. I am gay and happen to be a Muslim too. Maybe that makes me the worst person on earth one way or the other. Things could be better if people open there eyes and stop believing in how media portrays a specific group of people.
Hey Salloo (and Susan, too, actually) -- I was actually careful in my post not to specify "Islamic terrorists" when I was talking about whom gays were better than. Although perhaps I should have emphasized the separation more.
Terrorists and Muslims are certainly two different constituencies in my mind, just as the Inquisitors were quite different from Catholics at large during the Inquisition's time. I am, myself, Filipino-American and so have known and am friends with many a Muslim, so I apologize for any insensitivity on my part. I hope you got that I was attempting to portray Sally Kern and her comments for the bigoted joke that she/they are. |
