Those of you who read my personal blog play rey play know that I'm a big fan of Pansy Division, a band of fabulous punks that were a major part of the Queercore movement. When most rockers were afraid to be openly gay and most gays weren't interested in music that didn't have an electronic thump-thump that encouraged the good ol' hump-hump, Pansy Division along with God Is My Co-Pilot and Riot Grrrl were bringing guitar-humming messages of homo liberation, politics, and pride to rock venues across America.
After a few years of only performing for special occassions and causes, Pansy Division announced that they'll be touring this fall!
PD will be opening for The Avengers in a tour throughout the West Coast that will have a few Northeast stops. Not only did my giggly teen fanboy excitement have me surfing the Internet far and wide for the East Coast date near me, but
a post on my blog actually attracted the attention of Pansy Division member Chris Freeman (who oh, so helpfully told me to head over to Maxwell's on October 25).
Whether it's the irreverence of Touch My Joe Camel, the sexiness of Fem In a Black Leather Jacket or Groovy Underwear, the cheery despair of Luv, Luv, Luv, the innocent hope of Who Treats You Right, or the balls to wall sexual politics of Versatile and No Protection - there's a Pansy Division song that relates to nearly every aspect of my queer life. Keep your eye on their website to find a show near you!
