Aside from the obvious incongruities - Tom DeLay and company with Jack Abramoff's blood money traded votes for personal luxuries like sports tickets, transportation in private jets, and Carribean golf holidays while a bunch of straight Supreme Court judges ruled in favor of marriage equality in order to personally gain well...nothing - President Bush managed to re-make the already re-made judicial "activists" into public officials engaing in "unethical conduct." He re-defined marriage equality itself into an activity on the same level as taking bribes, selling out your constituents, and profiting on the exploitation and extermination of Native American tribes.

What else is he saying here? That America's lesbian, gay, and transgendered people seeking to marry their partners are unfeeling, indecent, and hopeless? That queers are not parents and are not concerned about the direction of our culture or the health of our most basic institutions? That there is no place for us in this hopeful society?

All I have to say is this: I hope all the time. I hope that Coretta Scott King dying on the same day Justice Sam Alito rose to the bench is not a sign from the beyond. I hope that queer and straight Americans will be able to sit down and discuss marriage, marriage equality, and what equal justice under the law for all really means (including equal justice for single people). And I hope that Democrats and Independents gain a few seats in the upcoming elections, because unchecked Republican power seems to have done nothing for queer Americans except legitimize the statements of hate groups and convince people that discrimination, intolerance, and hate are acceptable behavior for all Americans and Christians.

Pay attention all you big queers out there: at just past 9:30 p.m. on January 31, 2006 you were publically discriminated against on national television to the applause of Washington, DC. You were told that a hopeful society does not include you or your families. Pay attention to those words and pay attention to the races in this election year. This administration and future administrations - whether they be Republican or Democrat - have no reason to include you, if you do not support and elect representatives, senators, state, and local officials who actively seek universal freedom and tolerance.

And, most of all, show everyone the face of a truly free and hopeful society by continuing everyday to hope.
