I don't know about you, but I'm not a lable queen. I don't wear much beyond a T-shirt and shorts. Maybe a button up tropical shirt. I don't buy much outside of Wal-Mart and Stein Mart. Some may scoff, but I don't care. I like to look nice and coordinated, but as far as label and what not, I don't much care. I learned a long time ago to dress for myself and not to impress others.
Bored at work, I just googled the words " blog + gay" and here I found this. Reading this story has made me live today's best 5 minutes at work! Very...hmmm...how to say it, without sounding like the back cover of one of those fiction best-seller books you buy at the supermarket? Well...REFRESHING.
I dress really bad to go to work, and I guess, it's due to the fact that I don't like my job! On the other hand, when I go out with friends, or even only for a beer at the neighborhood bar, I like to be more accurate in the choice of my clothes...which however never goes beyond Ts (maybe with queer messages, but nothing too outrageous in shape/color), jeans (with funny cuts sometimes, but again nothing too outrageous)...and yet, I believe people on the street notice that I am *gay*...and that's fine, just about fine, coz that's who and what I am...and I guess I am lucky enough to live in a place like HK, where I do not need someone calling me "faggot" to remind myself of who I am. Cheers mates, Anto
The strangest thing about this experience is that before it, I didn't realize I believed everyone knew I was gay. But apparently I do, since when they began perceiving me as straight I was thrown for such a loop.
It's all about what progressive gay people have been pursuing for such a long time: a world where no one assumes another person's sexuality, gay or straight. Whether it be the way they dress, act, or cross-dress the only way to know someone's sexuality is to ask them. Or to catch them with a dick up their ass. |
